Sultry Bathrooms

I recently revamped my master bathroom and went against every safe part of my design brain. While I do not ascribe to "function over fashion," I definitely think about mass appeal, resale, and, of course, my comfort zone.
So I chucked all of that out of the window and went with what I felt. And I ended up with this.

I used 3x6 Carrara marble subway tile for the walls. I was recommended to a larger format tile by my renovation team designer, but these were cheaper! And I am so glad that they were because I think it looks better. We also took a shortcut on the very "right now" fishscale tile in favor of these black matte lanterns that cost a lot less and I think also look so much better. I think the fishscale shape works much better on a backsplash. The more flowing format of the lantern really worked here.
As a color aficionado, I found it so hard to commit to the the stark contrast of the dark/light tile, but with the right lighting, it is so warm! A shoutout to Portland Oregon's Schoolhouse Electric for continuously merging industrial with warmth -- not an easy feat.
Another way to bring warmth to a sultry palette is to move away from any gray undertones in the paint. I used Dove Wing by Benjamin Moore. Natural wood accents also infuse a lagom feeling. Thank you, Ikea, for another cost conscious win. These drawers hold an army of things. So beware -- you must organize and purge before you get the Godmorgan vanity, or your kids will be hiding legos in there before you know it.
Have a wonderful week! XO Maggie
